For centuries we've been cultivating grape vines for the sole function of wine production, making a delicious drink. Regardless of whether the wine is for sipping while you relaxing in the garden or trying to find the perfect wine to compliment your meal, everyone enjoys a bottle from the
wine merchants.
Areas Which Produce White Wine
Lots of countries from all around the world produce and export wine, while others produce the wine but decide to keep it within their own country. We all know the most popular countries for producing wine, places such as Italy, Spain, France, New Zealand and Australia and other countries which have a warmer climate.
Other countries, including Hungary and Germany produce a wide range of regional wines which they export within the rest of Europe. Areas of southern America have also begun to produce moderate amounts of high quality wine within recent years.
Sweet Wine Types
Even within a range of wines, there is a huge variety of different tartness or sweetness depending on the grape, country and age of the wine. Sweet wines can either be paired with fruit or cheese or enjoyed on their own.
If a wine is only made from one type of grape, rather than a mixture, this is known as a varietal wine. Reisling, Gewurztraminer and Chenin Blanc are all types of popular varietal sweet wines. Depending on the grapes used, blended wines could also be a sweet wine.
Dry Wines
Dry wine, much like pretty much every other wine can vary quite a lot depending on many different factors such as the age and origin. Chardonnay is the most popular type of dry wine. Poultry and fish both word very well with a nice glass of Chardonnay.
Dessert & Apertif Wines
Dessert wines are obviously sweet and are best enjoyed sipped from a small liquor glass and include variants such as Muscat and Sauterne. An Apertif on the other hand is dry or semi-sweet, but not too sweet and is also to be enjoyed in small quanitites. Sherry & Champagne are a couple of wines which could be used an as aperitif.
Choosing the best
wine for any occasion will vary according to a selection of factors such as the type of food you will be eating, the time of the year and of course the preference of your guests.
